Democracy

Australia has had a strong democracy but there is increasing dissatisfaction and lack of trust in it – currently we have the lowest level recording of public trust and satisfaction with our democratic arrangements. (https://www.democracy2025.gov.au/about.html)

Australians have become less trustful of politicians, more sceptical about democratic institutions and disillusioned with our democratic processes.

This is eroding community involvement, making governments more risk averse and creating space for the rise of authoritarian-populist forces.

Restoring political trust in Australia’s democracy is critical to our community and Australia. Trust is the glue that builds joint action for the mutual benefit of us all.

Democracy is a skill, a habit, a practice that this pillar wants to build in Lyne so we feel better equipped and more confident about participating in democratic opportunities and addressing complex, long-term challenges.
